Architect Nader Khalili recieved global recognition for his unique design for emergency architecture in 2004. He was awarded the Prestigious Aga Award.
This design is made from rectangular sandbags, on-site earth and barbed wire. The size of an emergency super abobe shelter is 1.83 meters and the price to complete a super Adobe structure can start from $625 and can be built by six refugees within 7 to 10 days.
This structure can easily be deconstructed when needed due to the earth materials and can also become permanent depending on how long families need to stay in the structure.
Some families that live in this structure for long periods of time could extend the structure if needed as the super Adobe guide can show you how to create a structure as big as you need.
Results show that due to the shape of the structure, when all the inner wall lengths are the same. The spherical roof has more of an impact than a flat roof which results to the ventilation being more effective.
Due to the mud on the exterior walls, this creates a positive effect of thermal inertia. A skylight can be added also to save artificial lighting.
